Twelve-year-old Isabel decides that this summer she's not just going to lie around the Oakland public pool with her cousins -- she's going to start a business. Before long, she's doing yard work for a woman who lives in a fancy neighborhood near Oakland. At first it's okay; the pay is great, after all. But soon the woman's son, Charles, and his friend Sam begin making fun of Isabel -- her Mexican background, her name, even her family.
